Mobility and Sustainability.

Mobility and Sustainability.

Bratislava (Slovakia).

Bratislava (Slovakia).

The approximately 7,500 employees in the Bratislava plant manufacture gearboxes and corresponding components as well as the VW Touareg, Polo models, the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne. In 2004 the plant produced over 220,000 vehicles and over 350,000 gearboxes. The environmental management system was certified according to ISO 14001 in 2001. The Bratislava and Martin plants belong to the parent company, Volkswagen Slovakia.

Membership in the Nature Conservancy Association
As a member of the Association of Industry and Nature Conservancy, the plant has co-operated with local communities, authorities and industry since its foundation in 1994. The non-profit, non-governmental organisation APOP brings together companies and various public-interest bodies. It is the common aim of all those involved to contribute to the development of the Bratislava region and to improve environmental and living conditions. Various usages of agriculture, industry and settlement measures are increasingly endangering the ecological balance. The association is working to counter this development with various renaturation projects. For example, the national nature conservancy of the Slovak Republic and the magistrate's office of Bratislava are co-operating with Volkswagen Slovakia in projects conducted by the association.

Responsibility for employees
Volkswagen Slovakia and the trade union organisation have concluded a collective agreement to protect the interests of both contracting parties. Their common goal is above all to ensure lasting development for Volkswagen Slovakia as well as to develop competitive capability both within and outside the Volkswagen Group. The collective agreement is therefore a starting point for mutual responsibility, which also ensures understanding of employees' social concerns and consideration of market economy requirements.

Volkswagen Slovakia is working together with the works council to introduce flexible work schedule models designed to counter sales fluctuations and to safeguard the employment situation in such situations. The employees also receive support for supplemental pension schemes and also receive additional support when they retire. Employee satisfaction is given high priority. Accommodation, payment, mobility and flexibility are given particular emphasis.
