Sustainability at the Volkswagen Plants
The integration of protection of the environment is already given a high priority at all the plants when planning processes and selecting process materials. All the environmental protection measures are the subject of further development by a comprehensive environmental management system. They are examined regularly in accordance with the EC-ECO-Audit regulations at plants in the EU and in accordance with ISO 14001 in the other regions of the world. The German Volkswagen plants report regularly in their environmental declarations about the status of protection of the environment within their operations. The combined environmental data of all the plants give information about the trends in the most important environmental characteristic data. The individual plant portraits also provide information about the role of the plants in the respective regions and communities. Their activities extend from job creation and involvement in the training of young people via co-operation with nature conservancy organisations to assisting suppliers in moving to plant areas and supporting social services.
