Environmental protection is increasingly an integral component of the entire process chain from product planning and product development right up to the recovery of the scrap vehicle. Against this background, many activities are running even in the development of a new Volkswagen, which not only guarantee the long life of the vehicle, but also continuously improve the subsequent recycling.

Use

Even though the development of a new vehicle takes several years, the usage phase is usually much longer. The same is the case when considering the environmental impacts in the life cycle of a vehicle. Here, too, the service life is decisive. That is why Volkswagen sets great store by optimising the usage phase from an environmental point of view.

Recovery

When shredding scrap vehicles, around 20 % shredder residues are incurred, which to date have mostly been sent to landfill without being used. So that these mainly non-metallic materials can be used practically, Volkswagen has developed a new treatment method together with technology partners.
