UN Conference on Biodiversity in Bonn
The conservation of biological diversity is a challenge for humanity as a whole. All responsible players in industry, science and society are challenged to bundle their strengths worldwide to bring a halt to rampant extinctions.
The conservation of biodiversity is rapidly moving up the agenda of international politics. Since May 2006 a new EU Commission Action Plan on the Conservation of Biological Diversity has been available. At the meeting of the environment ministers of the G8 states in March 2007 biodiversity was also on the agenda. An explicit appeal was addressed to industry to take part in the conservation of biological diversity.
In May 2008 the ninth United Nations Nature Conservation Conference will be held in Bonn. Over 5000 participants from all over the world are expected in the former German Federal capital. Under the German presidency, the international community will discuss effective protection for the oceans and forests - and conclude whether it has come closer to the goal of stopping the destruction of nature and extinction agreed in Rio in 1992.

But unlike climate, biodiversity is an unknown word to most people. For this reason, Volkswagen is involved as a partner and main sponsor in a campaign to prepare the public for the UN Nature Conservation Conference. So that increasing numbers can understand the blunt term biodiversity.
