Only components are produced at Volkswagen's Martin location. The Martin plant was opened in 2000, and its approximately 800 employees produce such components as synchronous rings, flanged shafts, drum and differential housing, and brake discs. Together with the Bratislava plant, the Martin plant belongs to Volkswagen Slovakia.
Environmental protection Practical environmental protection is achieved through the use of swarf mills, chip centrifuges and emulsion separation via vaporiser technology. These processes allow the quantities of waste and wastewater to be kept as low as possible. The wastewater is conveyed through the plant's sewer system into the city's sewage treatment plant. Controlled and effective long-term environmental protection has been in place since 2003 through the environmental management system in accordance with ISO standard 14001. Close cooperation between the employees in the planning process and the environmental experts from the production department aims to ensure that the Martin plant sets standards in the field of environmental protection.
Relations with minorities Volkswagen Slovakia, a. s. and the local chapter of the trade union federation are contracting parties to a collective agreement which states that no employee may be discriminated against on the basis of gender, marital and family status, race, skin colour, language, age, health, religious belief, political or other views, union membership, national or social background, membership in a nation or ethnic group, property, family or other status. Company practice clearly indicates the multitude of nationalities represented at the plant, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, Denmark and Poland. Volkswagen Slovakia also announces internships for foreign students every year.
