The increase in consumption of electrical energy is associated with the continuous increase in production over the reporting period. District heating consumption fluctuates depending on weather conditions. In relation to the number of vehicles produced, electrical energy consumption fell in response to the Volkswagen Group's resource conservation strategy.
Since 2006 consumption of fossil fuels at the Volkswagen plants has shown a continuous fall, while at the same time vehicle output has increased. Improvements in the use of resources and savings measures also led to a drop in consumption per vehicle over the reporting period.
As district heating is also used for space heating, the variations in consumption result largely from seasonal variations in temperature, which vary from one year to the next. Consequently, the level of detail of the data acquisition process used here does not permit a more detailed analysis.
